Ask who makes the medicine and who sends it. If the answer is just the name of the service taking payment, ask again.

Choose the pharmacy search
Florida’s free health license search calls businesses such as pharmacies ‘establishments’. Choose that search option for the pharmacy’s record. Florida’s pharmacy board licenses pharmacies and pharmacists.
The record needs to match the name you were given. If it does not, ask the board which permit record to use.

A pharmacy outside Florida generally needs registration here to send you prescription medicine. The board can allow an exception for a pharmacy making only isolated shipments into Florida.
One parcel to you does not tell you how often that pharmacy ships into Florida. If it claims an exception, ask the board to confirm that the named pharmacy meets it.
An Internet pharmacy needs its own Florida permit. A licensed pharmacist must be in charge.

Sterile means no living germs. Compounded means made to order.
A pharmacy outside Florida needs a Florida permit to send sterile made-to-order medicines here. A larger medicine-making site needs that permit too.
The larger kind is called an outsourcing facility. It makes a group of medicine containers together, often for clinics or hospitals; that group is a batch.
Ask whether the supplier is a pharmacy or this larger kind of site. Use its full business name when asking Florida’s pharmacy board to check the permit.
Ask for the relevant permit, not just a general pharmacy license number.

In Florida, a pharmacy usually needs an extra permit to make sterile made-to-order medicines. Its name is Special Sterile Compounding Permit.
A pharmacy does not need that extra permit if it makes only preparations in a specific standards category called ‘immediate use’.
Ask the board whether the named pharmacy’s work meets that category. Saying you will use a delivered medicine soon does not settle that permit check.
The extra permit has its own number.

A facility and its medicine gain no approval by registering with the US drug regulator, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Ask how to reach a pharmacist about the specific product. Keep that answer with the pharmacy’s name.
