Understand the offer

What are peptide injections, exactly?

The word ‘peptide’ sounds like the name of a treatment. It is much broader than that. The useful question is what medicine an offer actually contains.

Prices and rules can change. Open ‘Check the source’ below each section to find the date for its facts.

The word describes how it is built

Picture a short string of beads, with each bead standing for a tiny part. A peptide is built from a short string of linked parts. Proteins are larger substances in the body, built from longer strings of the same parts. Insulin is one peptide.

Ask how that particular medicine would address the health concern that brought you here. The broad name ‘peptide’ does not answer that question.

The name alone does not establish whether an injection is safe or lawful.

Some are approved medicines

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved products containing semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy). Tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) does too.

That agency reviews drug products for particular uses.

Some are made to order

Compounding prepares medicine for an individual patient rather than supplying a finished drug-company product.

That can fill a patient need left unmet by an approved product. It does not give the compounded medicine FDA approval.

A research label is a different matter

‘Research use only’ means the label says the product is for research, rather than treatment. The FDA wrote to sellers whose websites still promoted these products for people to use.

The FDA said those sellers were selling unapproved drugs against federal law. These were the agency’s accusations about named sellers; a court had not decided the claims.

A research label does not answer whether a product is approved for your treatment. Ask for the exact product name and approval record.

Begin with your own health concern

Tell a clinician (a doctor or other health professional) what brought you to the search. Ask what they would assess before choosing a medicine. Choosing a treatment before the visit is not required.
